WHERE TO NEXT?
Dear Traveler,
I am holding on tight to the back of Trevor’s life jacket as we are racing through the water. The speedometer shows 40MPH but it feels much faster.
Salt water sprays my face and sunglasses aren’t enough to protect my eyes.
I’m laughing.
And then I’m not.
He turns right, we hit a wave and woosh we are both thrown into Culebra Bay.
I’m still laughing – mouth open. And a wave crashes over me. The unpleasant taste of saltwater goes down my throat.
Coughing, trying to keep my head above the waves, I swim back to the jetski and pull myself up.
OK I’m done.
“Jessie, I’ll go on the back of your jetski now!”
She will give me a much calmer ride.
Trevor, now on his own, can go as fast as he wants, turn as tight as he’d like and jump all the waves he wants.
I enjoy watching from a distance.
The five of us zip around the bay for the next 45 minutes, laughing, racing and having fun in the sun. We return the jet skis to the Four Seasons and get to spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing.
Our trip to Costa Rica has included high adrenaline moments on jet skis and ziplining near Arenal Volcano and also relaxed nights with cocktails playing poker and Code Names while watching the sunset (photo above from last night).
We love wildlife and Costa Rica is the perfect place for that. We’ve seen sloths, macaws, toucans, spider and howler monkeys, spiny-tailed iguanas, dolphins, whales and lots of fish.
Fun fact: do you know the sound your smoke alarm makes when the battery is running low?
A little chirp.
There is a frog in Costa Rica that sounds just like it!
We are on our fourth and final destination of this trip – in a remote, southern part of Costa Rica near Golfito and the Panama border. Although Costa Rica isn’t a big country, there are so many different types of places to visit. I’m now up to 15.
Costa Rica is an ideal destination for family vacations – with so much to do it can satisfy your most adventurous kid and also has beautiful luxury hotels to relax and be pampered.
The one thing Costa Rica is not – a place where curly hair can be kept straight!
In Guanacaste two more properties will be opening this year – Nekajui, a Ritz Carlton Reserve property, and the Waldorf Astoria. I expect with those new openings, airlines will add more flights, making it even easier to get here.
This week’s inspirational articles include 30 trips to plan 1+ years in advance (great advice for key places), Vogue’s list of 2025 most anticipated hotel openings and the best places in Europe to go with children.
