WHERE TO NEXT?

Dear Traveler,

The score: is 0-10. Yale is leading at Dartmouth’s homecoming at the start of the 4th quarter.

Within minutes Dartmouth scores two touchdowns!

14-10, Dartmouth.

With just 37 seconds left, Yale scores a touchdown.

Dartmouth fans are silent.

Then Yale’s kicker misses the extra point.

The crowd erupts.

14-16. Yale still leads.

Can Dartmouth pull off a miracle with seconds left?

Their quarterback drives down the field. The clock hits 0:00 as their kicker attempts a 51-yard field goal.

It’s good! Dartmouth wins!

We pack up our tailgate gear, racing home to watch the Indiana vs. Oregon game.

Indiana is my alma mater and where two of our kids are in school.

#3 Oregon was predicted to win on their home field. But Curt Cignetti, Indiana’s now-famous second-year coach, never doubted his team.

Indiana pulled off a stunning 30-20 upset.

Last Saturday was a perfect day for the Lichtenstein family’s football teams!

For me, fall and football just go together. And so far this year has been a fun one.

Since I travel so much, people often ask what I do when I’m not traveling. Our fall Saturdays for the last 20 years have been spent tailgating at Dartmouth football games. My husband played football for Dartmouth so a Dartmouth win makes him very happy.

Fall may be my favorite season. I’ve squeezed in a lot of mountain biking, hiking, making soup and for a friend’s birthday on Monday I made the cavatelli I just learned in my Rome cooking class (such a fun way to bring back travel memories!).

The picture below is of me holding a comfort chicken made by a friend of mine. I didn’t need comforting on Saturday, so I’m now calling him the good luck chicken.

How does football tie into travel? Sporting events are the perfect reason to plan a trip! Whether it’s the NFL playing in Europe (Steelers vs. Vikings in Dublin, Jets vs. Broncos and Browns vs. Vikings in London, and the Falcons vs. Colts in Berlin), the World Cup (2026!), Wimbledon, European professional soccer or your kids’ college football team. Find one you want to go to and plan a trip around it!

To get back to a more consistent newsletter schedule and take care of our expanding number of travelers, I’ve decided to add another person to the Truvay Travel team. I’m eager to bring someone on so I can elevate what we do for you and implement ideas I’ve been percolating on. And it will free me up to return to writing you more frequently about our shared love for extraordinary travel experiences around the world.

If you’re equally passionate about incredible travel experiences and interested in joining the Truvay Travel team now or in the future, feel free to reach out.

There are so many discoveries I want to share from the PURE Life Experiences conference. Too many for one newsletter! Today I’ll share a short list, with more insights coming in future editions.

September’s most popular article was Conde Nast Travel’s 19 Best Women’s Loungewear Sets for Long Travel Days (my personal favorite is not on the list – Vuori Halo Performance line).

This week’s inspirational articles include working from yachts, taking a dream safari by yourself, wild swimming, vacations for the nerd in you, Italy’s prettiest islands (I was just on one) and CNT’s 2025 Reader’s choice Awards.

Also articles on Antarctica, Italy, Sardinia, Dolomites, Paros, Istanbul, New Zealand and Megeve.

The informational articles include a status update on the changes for Americans to travel to Europe, what will get you a fine at US Customs and getting an expedited passport.

  • **Because of the current government shut down, passports are taking longer to be processed. I highly recommend you renew yours asap if you will need it for travel in the near future.

And some very positive news – International Driving Permits can now be applied for on-line!

Next I’m off to Crested Butte, CO to visit my daughter. It’s shoulder season – in between the picturesque fall leaves and the snowy winter, which limits our activities a bit. I’m hoping for some sunny days to do a few beautiful hikes.

Where to next for you?

Warmly,

PURE

“That was the most refreshing meeting I’ve had all day.”

That was said to me after my second-to-last meeting on the second full day (appointment 27!) of the Pure Life Experiences conference in Morocco last month. It made me smile inside and out because I know when I’m talking about my favorite types of travel, my passion shines through. And this comment was from one of the premier safari lodge groups in Africa. African safaris are some of the most rewarding adventures to plan and experience!

Here are a few moments with some of my favorite people at the conference. Above are the owners and GMs of Costa Rica’s top resorts. And below some of my favorite Aussie, French and Greek travel industry friends.

Getting my sparkle on for the PURE closing party…

The first few nuggets to share from PURE…

Café Inkaterra

If you haven’t been, Peru belongs on your travel list. Beyond the iconic Machu Picchu, Peru offers countless adventures: interactions with the Quechua community, hiking, mountain biking, epic train journeys, two of the world’s top-rated restaurants (#1 Maido and #9 Kjolle), and the ancient culinary tradition of a Pachamanca.

And then there’s Café Inkaterra—a jewel of a restaurant nestled between train tracks, just a stone’s throw from Machu Picchu. A very special and unique location.

Folegandros, Greece

If you’re seeking an off-the-beaten-path Mediterranean escape next summer, Folegandros is a place to consider. This hidden gem is a tiny Cycladic island in the Aegean Sea with only 600 inhabitants, no airport and no beach clubs – just two towns and 15 beaches (five accessible only by boat or hiking trails). It’s well positioned among more popular islands like Santorini, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Milos and Sifnos.

The main town, set on a cliff, offers stunning views and a medieval Castle. Favorite hike? The route from Ano Meria to Livadaki beach. Add it to your list!

There are a handful of accommodations, four of which are my favorites for our travelers. Each is a little different so it depends on you!

*New OpeningWinterlake Lodge in Alaska will open in 2027, and I am so excited about this property. It’s owned by one of my favorite luxury adventure companies, Eleven Experience.

What makes it special?

  • World-class fly fishing, rafting, hiking, bear viewing, and glacier trekking
  • An on-site helicopter whisks you across Alaska’s wilderness in minutes
  • The Iditarod runs through the property at checkpoint 3—you can meet the racers!
  • They have a dog sled track, even in summer

Winterlake deserves to be on your list for your Alaskan adventure!

In the coming weeks insights on…

Iceland, the Caribbean, New Zealand, expedition ships, Greece, US National Parks, Indonesia, the Dolomites, Australia and more!

🌟 Our clients recently spent two weeks exploring Alaska and British Columbia. They spent 4 nights at Clayoquot Wilderness Lodge, one of the most extraordinary wilderness retreats in the world.

Why is Clayoquot so special?

  • Accessible only by seaplane or boat, the lodge sits on the edge of Clayoquot Sound. The remote, breathtaking location is surrounded by forest, mountains and ocean.
  • Stay in a luxurious safari-style tent with plush beds, heated floors and outdoor cedar showers.
  • Enjoy fine dining featuring local ingredients and fresh seafood. The menu changes daily and the bar features international wines and Champagnes.

Do as much or as little as you like:

  • Enjoy horseback riding, whale watching, kayaking, canyoning, hiking and bear viewing.
  • After your adventures of the day, unwind at the Healing Grounds Spa, in wood fired hot tubs and at the waterfront lounge.

Our client shared “The service is above and beyond. The staff catered to our every need. Everyone is so accommodating, friendly and fun and our dietary preferences were always met.”

They took a helicopter adventure “Sip to Sky” to the top of a mountain with beautiful views for their picnic, they did archery and enjoyed drinks on the rooftop chatting with other guests. They also loved having their coffee dropped off at the tent door each morning.

‼️ Don’t miss the heli-adventure. Take a scenic helicopter ride to alpine peaks for hiking, paddleboarding on glacial lakes or fly-fishing in complete solitude.

Clayoquot is my kind of luxury! Remote, exclusive, with access to wildlife and active adventures and the highest service levels.

Of course booking through Truvay Travel you will get extra perks and VIP treatment.
