WHERE TO NEXT?

Dear Traveler,

Did you watch the Masters last weekend? I’m not one who is glued to the TV for all four rounds, but I do like to watch the finish, especially when it is as exciting as this one was! Rory McIlroy played in the Masters 17 times. 11 times with the added pressure of being on the verge of only the 6th man in history to have a Career Grand Slam.

On the 18th hole he missed a putt to send it into a playoff against Justin Rose.

McIlroy won. His emotions overwhelmed him.

THAT was an exciting end!

With golf on my mind, today’s Highlight shares some helpful insights for planning a golf adventure – even with non-golfing partners.

Have you ever gone on a solo trip? Other than specifically for work, I don’t think I have. So last week, I spontaneously decided that I wanted some time away – to be outdoors hiking and to spend time taking care of me. So tomorrow I am off to a spa in the Hudson Valley.

By myself.

I will be mostly disconnected from work, so that I can focus on filling up my cup. I am so looking forward to it! And of course I’ll share more when I get back.

Last week’s most popular article was the WSJ’s No More Roughing It: 6 New Luxury Hotels Near National Parks.

This week’s inspirational articles include 3 perfect days in Marrakech, the best romantic hotels in the UK for couples, Milan’s hidden aperitivo bars and Aman’s foray into a luxury ship.

Also articles on NYC, Venice and Switzerland.

The informational articles include what it’s like to retire in Paris, advice for getting dual citizenship, how to lock down your device when crossing borders and how to ruin an $800,000 vacation.

Where to next for you?

Warmly,

PLANNING GOLF TRIPS FOR GOLFERS AND NON-GOLFERS

The joy of going on a trip and doing an activity you are passionate about is something we all would love! Whether it be running a race, hiking a mountain, playing tennis, taking cooking classes, learning a language or… playing golf.

As a non-golfing partner, I love finding experiences, people and places for those of us who go along on a trip with our golf-obsessed partners. Because these trips often require a special level of access and more lead time, knowing when to go and when to begin planning is essential.

Golf courses are in almost every country of the world. Some world famous like “the home of golf” at The Old Course at St. Andrews, others private and extremely hard to get into like Tara Iti Golf Club in New Zealand and others in remote locations like Lofoten Links in Norway.

I worked with my partners to put together the overviews below.

Ireland is a classic golf destination, but also a beautiful place to explore the countryside, see the Cliffs of Moher, drive the Ring of Kerry, watch sheepdog demonstrations and meet engaging locals. Hanging out at pubs is a big part of the local culture and you will want to fit in!

Close to the famous Tralee Golf Club, which will make the golfers happy, the town of Tralee is a favorite destination. The main streets of town are lined with some of the best Irish pubs.

The Brogue Inn, Seán Óg’s and The Pikeman Bar are a few favorites. Live music, friendly locals and pints of Guinness give you a classic Irish experience.

As Father’s Day and Mother’s Day is coming up, consider this a hint from your spouse to consider surprising them with a once in a lifetime trip! Leverage the details above on the best times to go and how far to plan in advance. Once the surprise is revealed, your partner will be impressed with your knowledge!

🌟 Our client was seeking to take her two teenage daughters to an atypical spring break destination. One of the ideas I proposed was San Miguel de Allende, a UNESCO World Heritage site. I’d fell in love with the city a few years ago on a trip with friends. The traditional architecture, art, artisans, food and shopping are all a draw.

Last month they went and stayed at Rosewood San Miguel de Allende. After she came home she shared, “The city is magical, so beautiful and the food was amazing everywhere we went!”

Why is Rosewood San Miguel de Allende so special?

  • The hotel is nestled in the heart of San Miguel de Allende, walking distance to the center, but with the feeling of being at a resort.
  • Rooms are spacious and warm, created to feel like you’re living in a luxurious hacienda from another century. Some rooms have private rooftop terraces with hot tubs and views of the city skyline.

Do as much or as little as you like:

  • Indulge in holistic massages and rejuvenating skincare rituals at Sense. Bask in the sun by one of two pools—a serene main pool with private cabanas and a separate family-friendly pool perfect for children.
  • Immerse yourself in the vibrant spirit of San Miguel without even leaving the property. The hotel regularly hosts local art exhibits, hands-on cooking classes, and live music events that celebrate the region’s rich cultural heritage.
  • Ready to explore? Step outside and you’re just a short walk from the iconic Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, charming art galleries, one-of-a-kind boutiques and some of the best dining in the city.
  • Get exercise the way locals do (and what I did daily while there) – scale the series of steps leading up to one of the best viewpoints over the city (photo below).

‼️Don’t miss…. a late afternoon at Luna Rooftop Tapas bar is a must! Enjoy the stunning sunset while sipping fun cocktails and sampling delicious small plates.  On my trip we spent a special evening here listening to music under the sky.

About their taco tasting tour… “Our guide was amazing. We loved her – she was so much fun.”

Their highlight was meeting with a local artisan who shared his passion for creating his art. They all took the opportunity to create pieces of their own.

One important note – Rosewood San Miguel de Allende hosts many weddings. It’s good to know ahead of time if there will be one during your stay as it can be a loud experience. But also a unique glimpse into the local culture.

See a few of my photos below.
