WHERE TO NEXT?

Dear Traveler,

I’m back from my solo long weekend away. It was everything I’d wanted it to be… and more. Healthy eating, wellness, connection, time outdoors, big hikes and sunny days. I feel strong, healthy and energized!

I need more time to sum it all up for you, so look forward to more details in an upcoming newsletter.

Mother’s Day is coming up – May 11. Below is a Condé Nast article to give you some inspiration for ideas. There are many destinations included, but the two at the top of my list are not.

So I’ll share mine to give you two more ideas…

I’ve wanted to take my daughters to Miraval Berkshires for Mother’s Day (I’ve already been twice and love it). But this year, our oldest, Allison, won’t be home and Jessie’s plans are a bit up in the air. So I think I’ll have to wait for a future year and this year we’ll do something local and outdoors. Followed by something delicious.

You may know from a prior newsletter my dad passed away last month at 93. So I recently asked my mom, who took great care of him for the last several years, of all of the places in the world, where would she like to go.

She picked gorilla trekking and a safari (I 100% expected that answer as she used to love taking my brother and I to see the gorillas at the Washington DC zoo when we were little). It won’t be on Mother’s Day, but that’s ok. I’m already planning our adventure. She’s 84 years young and I can’t wait to take her on her first safari!

What are ways you can celebrate your mom, yourself or with your kids? It’s your day – you get to decide how to spend it (that’s my rule anyway). Next week when I tell you more about my long weekend at the wellness retreat in the Hudson Valley – you just may be inspired to go there yourself or gift it to your mom!

Last week’s most popular article was a tie between… WSJ’s How to Ruin an $800,000 Vacation? Hire the Wrong Person on Your Superyacht and Washington Post’s Want to leave the U.S. for good? How to get dual citizenship.

This week’s inspirational articles include mother-daughter trips, celeb-owned super yachts, new hotel cocktail bars for romantics and the most dazzling Mayfair restaurants.

The informational articles include hidden iPhone travel hacks, shopping in the Tariff Age and flying first class.

Also articles on Spain, London, Paris, Norway, Portugal, NY, the Caribbean and Sardinia.

Only three nights home and I’m off again. This weekend I’m visiting two of our kids at college for a big bike race.

Where to next for you?

Warmly,

Thank you!

Our clients, a couple, just returned from five nights in the Cotswolds. They came to me wanting an off the beaten path getaway to explore small villages, eat delicious foods, go on beautiful hikes and rest and recharge.

They like quiet luxury.

I proposed three hotels for them to choose from – ranging from an in town boutique hotel to a country manor home. They chose a boutique hotel near Cirencester. I rounded things out with hiking routes, reservations at local pubs and restaurants, and recommendations for antique shopping and villages to explore.

The GOOD. What went well? What were your favorite and most memorable experiences? Any particular WOW moment or experience?

EVERYTHING.

Our experience with the transfers was unmatched and I would recommend them to everyone traveling surrounding the Cotswolds.

The hotel was fantastic. The staff was young, energetic and eager to get to know us. The food was great and our room was gorgeous. The staff kept telling us that it was the best room on property!

[She raved about the restaurants – one of which I’ve included in today’s Highlight below.]

Is there anything you would do differently next time?

No!

YOU were fantastic. I wouldn’t change a thing!

Was there a person or people that you met along the way that you’d like to recognize for being especially helpful?

Jamie and Nicole at the hotel! They were wonderful, down to earth, funny and unbelievably accommodating.

What is your favorite memory of the trip?

There were many but we had such a nice time just driving through the various villages. Coln Rogers is a tiny village near Bibury that has some of the most idyllic scenery I’ve ever seen. It only took us 2 minutes to drive through but was such a standout. For me, the highlight meal was at [see below].

If you have suggestions for how we might be able to make your experience working with us even better next time, please share.

Anything else you’d like us to know?

Mimi, THANK YOU so much for all of your help and thank you for the book! I can’t wait to read it!

THE BULL

The highlight meal of our clients’ recent trip to the Cotswolds was at The Bull.

10/10 experience in a 1500’s tavern. The atmosphere was down to earth, moody and ancient but the food felt like a modern approach to traditional British cuisine. I loved it.

Our waiter, Rufus, was young and hilarious (bordering boisterous) which made the whole meal funny and light. He was damn good at his job but left us laughing throughout the meal.”

Every Wednesday evening is Steak Night and every Thursday is Pie and Pint Night. I’m up for both! Consider a mid-week stay when booking your visit.

🌟Salterra is a beautiful new resort located in South Caicos that opened last month.

Why visit Salterra?

  • Salterra is ideal for travelers seeking a private, serene escape away from crowded tourist areas. It caters to travelers looking for a mix of adventure and relaxation.
  • The resort offers kayaking, snorkeling and paddleboarding along its pristine beaches. For more adventure, explore the vibrant marine ecosystems of the Caicos Bank, paddle to uninhabited cays, dive into the coral reefs or take a boat to a nearby deserted island.
  • For relaxation, visit the resort’s state-of-the-art spa, enjoy halotherapy treatments or simply unwind on the secluded beachfront.
  • A popular hike in South Caicos is along the bluffs from Shark Bay to Highlands Bay, offering scenic views of reefs and the Turks Island Passage.
  • Another unique place to visit nearby is the School for Field Studies, where college students learn about marine life to complete their study abroad program.

One of my colleagues was there two weeks ago and said…

“The resort’s setting on a pristine white sand beach with no other properties in sight—is stunning.

The heartfelt passion of the owners and staff truly sets it apart. Their dedication creates an experience that feels more like being welcomed into a cherished home than just visiting a resort.

My personal favorite moment was the quiet sunrise walks along the beach—peaceful, secluded, and surreal, save for a curious donkey in the distance. It felt like being a castaway in paradise, yet always just steps from luxury.”

They are in the process of gaining approval for a Kiteboarding School (on my personal list to learn). I think this will be more of a family destination than one specifically for couples.

Of course it comes with the usual perks and VIP treatment when booking your stay through Truvay Travel.
